Policy

BWA seeks to influence city and regional policymaking on issues that have implications for the walking environment. We do this by meeting those involved in the development of policies, by lobbying, and by participating in consultation exercises.

Examples include:

  • regular meetings with the Chair of Bristol City Council’s Transport and Connectivity Committee;
  • setting up an informal group of ‘Walking Champions’ from Bristol City Councillors representing each of the main political parties;
  • participating in the West of England Combined Authority’s Future Transport Zone Equalities advisory group;
  • being consulted on the West of England Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan, which set out priorities and standards for investment; and
  • raising concerns about the City Council’s plans for parks and green spaces.

To get more idea of what this involves, take a look at the list of policy issues to which we have responded so far.
